Botanical artist Pennie Janousek says:
Nature, particularly its
flora, has held a fascination for me since my childhood. My art has always been a reflection of that
love of nature in its form and subject matter.
During the past eleven years I have channeled my artistic energy into
one of the most demanding of art forms.
Botanical illustration was historically used prior to photography as a
means of scientific documentation of a species.
While the onset of photography filled this need for visual accuracy, it
could not replace the beauty of botanical illustration as an art form in its
own right. By rendering the details and intricate structure of a plant form, my
aim is to transfer to the viewer both an intimate knowledge and an artistic
sensibility of my subject.
