Whidbey Reads Artwork on Display

Point Wilson Lighthouse by Carole Dawes

In celebration of Whidbey Reads 2013, Oak Harbor Library displays paintings and photographs thematically related to the Whidbey Reads book, West of Here. Artists Carole Dawes and Sheila Mohn share paintings of Whidbey Island and the Olympic Peninsula. Toni Kay Smith displays photos of Washington landscapes and wildlife.

Artist Carole Dawes lives and paints here on Whidbey Island. She paints primarily with watercolor, taking photographs of the places in the Pacific Northwest that speak to her on a deep level and using them as inspiration to communicate emotion through line and color. Although fairly new to painting, Carole loves to face new challenges in her work and will sometimes paint a single scene numerous times from different angles and different light.
